Those who Fell in WW1
 
HAW, Joseph Clarence
Private, 1st/4th Battalion, Alexandra, Princess of Wales’s Own (Yorkshire Regiment), 150 Brigade, 50th Division.  Army no 35161. He had also served as Private, Army no 35166 with the 9th Training Battalion.
He was killed in action on Tuesday 9 April 1918 at the Battle of Estaires. He was 19.
He was the son of Thomas and Harriet Haw, Wold Newton.
He is buried in Pont du Hem Military Cemetery, La Gorgue and his headstone is inscribed Their Glory shall not be blotted out.
 
JEFFERSON, Sydney
Private, 1st/5th Battalion TF, Alexandra, Princess of Wales’s Own (Yorkshire Regiment), 150 Brigade, 50th Division.  Army no 3648
He was killed in action on Friday 3 March 1916. He was 19
He was the son of George Robert Jefferson, Wold Newton and the late Jane Elizabeth Jefferson
He is buried in Maple Copse Cemetery and his headstone is inscribed His Duty Done.
 
SLEIGHTHOLME, Alfred Percival                           MM
Serjeant, 21st (Service) Battalion (Yeoman Rifles), The King’s Royal Rifle Corps, 124 Brigade, 41st Division.  Army no C/12136.
He was killed in action on Sunday 5 August 1917. He was 21.
He was the son of George H and Isabel Sleightholme, Westfield House, Hunmaby.
He is remembered on The Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres.
And his elder brother
SLEIGHTHOLME, Robert
Private, 35th Battalion, 3rd Australian Division, Australian Infantry, Australian Imperial Force.  Army no 1441A.
He was killed in action on Friday 12 October 1917 in an attack on Passchendaele Ridge. He was 29.
He was the son of George H and Isabel Sleightholme, Westfield House, Hunmaby.
He is remembered on The Menin Gate Memorial Ypres.
Probate records tell us that he lived at Kelvin, Gunedale, New South Wales.
 
WOOD, George William
Serjeant, 1st Battalion, The East Yorkshire Regiment, 64 Brigade, 21st Division.  Army no 8881.
He died from his wounds on Thursday 21 March 1918 at the Battle of St Quentin.
He is remembered on The Pozieres Memorial.
It is recorded that he was born in Foxholes and lived in Hunmanby.
