He is buried in Chester Farm Cemetery, Belgium and his headstone is inscribed He hath given his beloved sleep ANDREWS, Thomas I have found no military record for this man but I believe he was the son of Thomas and Alice Andrews, The Cottage, Hazelcroft, Killinghall. BARRETT, Robert George Acting Corporal, 1st/5th Battalion, The Prince of Wales’s Own (West Yorkshire Regiment), 146 Brigade, 49th Division. Army no 2253. He was killed in action during the battle of Pozières Ridge on Monday 28 August 1916. He was 19 He was the son of Robert and Eliza Barrett, 46 Electric Avenue, New Park, Harrogate He is buried in Hamel Military Cemetery, Beaumont-Hamel and his headstone is inscribed Ever in our Thoughts. BAXTER, Arthur Gunner, A Battery, 230th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Army no 135133. He died on Monday 29 January 1917 in the 12th Stationary Hospital in this village. He was 26. He was the son of William and Eliza Baxter, Otley Road, Killinghall. He is buried in Communal Cemetery Extension, St Pol. BENTLEY, Harry Driver, Army Service Corps attached to XII Corps Ammunition Column. Army no T4/091570. He died on 13 October 1918. There are different dates recorded for his death either 13 or 30 October 1918. The town of Kalamaria was a Hospital Centre. He was 23. He was the son of David and Alice Bentley, Killinghall. He is buried in Mikra British Cemetery, Kalamaria, Greece and his headstone is inscribed To Memory ever Dear. He had also served Private, Army no 203851 with The Prince of Wales’s Own (West Yorkshire Regiment). He was killed in action on Wednesday 10 October 1917 He was 37. He was the son of Henry and Robin W Bramley and the husband of Minnie Bramley He is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial. BROCKBANK, Walter Sergeant, 1st Battalion, The Cheshire Regiment, 15 Brigade, 5th Division. Army no 20727. He was killed in action on Wednesday 24 April 1918 during the fighting on the Lys. He was 27. He was the son of John and Annie Brockbank, New Park, Harrogate and the husband of Nora Brockbank who he had married in 1917. HAYES, George I have not traced his death or his military unit but he was probably the son of Margaret (Maggie) and the late Thomas Hayes and born in about 1897. He was the brother of Harry. He was killed in action on Thursday 20 September 1917 during the battle of Menin Road Ridge (Ypres). He was 27. He was the son of Rupert L and Sarah Kendall. Rupert was a Blacksmith in Killinghall. He is buried the churchyard of St. Thomas The Apostle, Killinghall and his headstone is inscribed Greater Love than this, No Man hath. Additional information Lancaster JB176 took off from RAF Bourn at 16.55 hours on a mission to Berlin. The aircraft crashed at 01.59 on its return to base. 5 of the crew were killed. |
