Hampton Gay

Picture
The Church of St Giles

There is no War Memorial and perhaps this hamlet qualifies as one of the “Blessed Villages”.
In the early twentieth century, there were just 6 houses, the Manor House and the Paper Mill had both been destroyed by fire.
This parish is now a member of the Church of England Benefice of Akeman, which includes the parishes of Bletchingdon, Hampton Gay, Kirtlington, Middleton
Stoney, Wendlebury and Weston-on-the-Green.
Regular services are held despite the absence of electricity. You can drive there but it is only about 10 minutes’ walk across lovely pasture. Strangely it is a very short distance from The Church of the Holy Cross, Shipton on Cherwell but the Oxford Canal and the river Cherwell separate the two places and there is no bridge
