He was killed in action near Ypres on 25 September 1917. He was 35.
He was the son of George and Mary Best of Sherborne St. John, Basingstoke and the husband of Elsie May Best, 17 Bucknell.
He is buried in grave II E 11 Birr Cross Roads Cemetery, near Ypres

Percy NASH
Private, 2nd/4th Battalion, Princess Charlotte of Wales’s (Royal Berkshire Regiment), 184 Brigade, 61st Division. Army no. 203106
He was killed in action on 22 August 1917. He was 38.
He was the son of Rose Nash and the late James Nash of Crowborough, Charlbury and the husband of Eleanor Jane Nash of Bucknell
He is remembered on panel 105 to 106 and 162 of the Tyne Cot Memorial

He was the son of the Rev. Everard and Dora Owen, 13 Lancaster Road, London, NW3. I believe that the Rev Everard Owen was at one time the Rector of Bucknell
He is buried in grave II H 19 Vermelles British Cemetery near Lens

He is buried in in a grave to the left of the entrance in the Churchyard of St. Peter’s Church, Bucknell

Richard WOODHOUSE
Private, Royal Army Veterinary Corps (Woolwich). Army no. SE 17624
He was awarded a Silver War Badge on 16 October 1916 the reason is stated as sickness. He had only enlisted on 14 June and had not served overseas.
His death is recorded in the Civil Death Registrations in Headington in the quarter ended in September 1917. He was 49   
Additional information
His Silver War Badge was number 181954. This badge was to inform others that the holder was unable to serve in the Armed Forces as a result of poor health and thus protect them from public abuse

JOHN WYATT
Private, 2nd Battalion, The Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment). Army no.  72910. He was formerly with The London Regiment. Army no. 354670
He died from his wounds on 29 June 1918. He was 31.
He was the son of George and Eliza Wyatt of Bucknell and the husband of Mary Ann Wyatt, Holly Cottage, Astle Lane, Chelford, Cheshire.
He is buried in grave I C II Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille.

Each Division had transport under its own command, known as the Divisional Train. It was the 'workhorse' of the Division in terms of carrying stores and supplies, providing the main supply line. It comprised 26 officers and 402 other ranks of the Army Service Corps, looking after 378 horses, 17 carts, 125 wagons and 30 bicycles. These were a headquarters and 4 Horsed Transport Companies. The Train moved with the Division. In all, there were 364 ASC Companies of this type.

He is remembered on pier and face 9A, 9B and 10B of the Thiepval Memorial

He was killed in action on 24 August 1918 in the fighting on the Somme.

He was killed in action on 24 March 1945. He was 24.
He was the son of Archibald Frederick and Lillian Knyvett Anne Nicholson of Bucknell
He is buried in grave 35 E 3 Reichswald Forest War Cemetery
Additional Information
This was the date of Operation Varsity, the Allied crossing of the Rhine,  which was achieved using 9 Battalions of British and 6 American Battalions of American Airborne Troops

Richard Frank POWELL
Military records show him as serving with The Highland Light Infantry and not 2nd Oxford & Bucks Light Infantry as appears on the plaque.
Private, 2nd Battalion, The Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment) Brigade, Division.  Army no. 5386696
He died on active service in the battle for Caen on 17 July 1944. He was 30.
He was the son of Frank and Annie Powell of Bucknell
He is buried in grave VIII H 1 St. Manvieu War Cemetery, Cheux
Additional Information
It should be added that both of these units were fighting in Normandy at this time

Robert William RANDALL
Sergeant, Radio Operator (Air), 44 Squadron, Royal Air Force. RAFVR no. 1216626
He died on active service on 12 September 1944. He was 22.
He was the son of Edward Frank and Beatrice Randall of Bucknell
He is buried in grave 18 E 14 Rheinberg War Cemetery
Additional Information
His aircraft Lancaster LL965 KM-V of 44 Squadron took off at 20.44 hours from RAF Dunholme Lodge on a mission to Dormstadt. It crashed at 23.30 hours near Roxheim which is a small town 13 kilometres from Worms.
All the crew died. They were:
Flying Officer E Westgate,  Sergeant R A Fisher, Flight Sergeant W Taylor, Flight Sergeant W H Thompson, Sergeant R W Randall, Sergeant J C Murphy and Sergeant H Gee. All are buried in Rheinberg War Cemetery
